The Bahia Principe Costa Adeje is a superior four star hotel located right by the beach of Playa Paraíso, south-west Tenerife.  It is one of two hotels in the Pueblo Principe leisure complex, with the other one, somewhat confusingly, being called the “Bahia Principe Hotel”.  Board is on an all-inclusive basis at the hotel with many guests reporting how the all-inclusive experience here is so much better than at other Costa Adeje hotels.  The hotel rooms have some truly beautiful views over the ocean and you can even see the little island of La Gomera in the distance.  Reviewers of this hotel loved it: at Trip Advisor, out of 482 reviewers a massive 53% rated it “excellent” and a further 28% scored it “very good” – that’s a total of 81% of satisfied customers.  Only 11% rated it below average with the remaining 8% scoring it “average”.  Over at Holiday Watchdog it is the same story with 30 reviewers giving this hotel 8.5 out of 10 on average.  Please read on for more details on those reviews and some inside information on the Bahia Principe Costa Adeje:

Location

The location of this hotel must be the envy of some of the other Costa Adeje hotels; it’s tranquil, on a pretty area of the coast at Playa Paraiso, about three miles further up the coast from the main beaches of Fanabe and Torviscas which means that here we are talking a different type of holiday than you will get in the main resorts.  It’s quieter and more scenic, away from the hustle and bustle.

The hotel’s tranquil location means that if you are planning a trip out from the hotel and the bays around it, you will need a car.  However, a short walk from the hotel brings you to the small commercial centre at the resort with its small selection of shops and a smattering of bars and restaurants, and given the extensive hotel facilities you may decide that you are happy spending your entire Costa Adeje holiday just relaxing in and around the hotel, as many people do.

There is a little rocky beach below the hotel, but it’s nothing special and there are better beaches with easier access to the sea for the kids if you walk a little further.

By the way, the airport is less than 30 minutes’ drive away, so the transfer time is nice and short.

Rooms

The hotel’s 478 rooms are arranged in nine low-rise five-storey blocks around the pools, which means that unlike some of the other Costa Adeje hotels, you are not staying in a huge concrete sky-scraper but rather a collection of smaller buildings.  All have a balcony/terrace and most (but not all) have a sea view.  Some rooms have a king-size bed and others have twin beds, so you need to choose the room type when you book to make sure you get what you want.  Twenty-five of the rooms are designated as junior suites – superior and more expensive – and these have a “hydro-massage tub”.  All rooms have air conditioning, a ceiling fan, bathroom with toiletries provided, hair dryer, satellite TV with 28 channels, safe, mini-bar and phone.  Customers seem to be almost universally complimentary about their rooms compared to other Costa Adeje hotels, with “spacious and clean” being a common theme.

Outside

There are two sizeable landscaped pools at the Bahia Principe Costa Adeje, one of which is heated in the winter.  There are also extensive terraces and gardens, well-stocked with sunbeds and beach umbrellas, so there is no shortage of somewhere to sit and relax in the sun or the shade.  A nice touch is that you can get towels for the swimming pool at no extra charge – just pay a deposit at reception.  Because one of the pools is virtually on the cliff edge right next to the sea, you can find a spot to just sit and gaze out over the ocean, maximising the relaxation element of your Tenerife holiday.  Many guests report how clean and tidy they found the pool and gardens to be and another mentions the “beautiful landscaping”.  One word of advice – the tiles around the pool are said to get slippery when wet, which is often of course – just something to be aware of.

Leisure

The Bahía Spa offers a sauna, jacuzzi and also a gym if you really must do something energetic – all included in the price.  The gym is something of a weak point compared to other Costa Adeje hotels judging by a couple of reviews that mention the small number of machines that have seen better days.  You will also find a tennis court, squash court, mini-golf, ping-pong and billiards.

Entertainment at the hotel is extensive, with a very full programme compared to some of the other Costa Adeje hotels.  There are games and activities inside and out, in the daytime and evenings, for both children and adults.  Daytime activities include water polo and aerobics, and there is a Mini-club is for children aged 4-12, and also a junior disco.  Later there is an international show and live music in the evenings.  One reviewer said that the entertainment team was the highlight of his Tenerife holiday!

Food

There is a main buffet-style restaurant at the hotel, offering a great range of freshly prepared food in a light and airy restaurant.  This restaurant is also used for breakfast and lunch, but there is also a snack bar and a pool bar or the daytime food service.  In the evenings, as well as the main buffet restaurant there are three, yes three, themed a la carte restaurants to choose from.  The Vistamar restaurant specialises in seafood and fish dishes; the Casa Bonita, as you might expect, is Spanish; and the Portofino – hmm – yes, you are right – this is the Italian eaterie.   Note that for the a la carte restaurants, hotel policy is that you book in advance, and up to three visits per week are included in the price of your all-inclusive stay, which is pretty generous and you will not find this at many of the Costa Adeje hotels.  It means you can have a change of scenery and food and at no extra cost – although it has to be said that most people were more than happy with the variety of the changing menu in the main restaurant.

Bars

The pool bar is open from 10am to 6pm, and inside the snack bar area serves drinks until midnight with the lobby bar closing at 11pm.  There is a good selection of beers, wines, spirits and cocktails on offer, with juices etc. for the children and of course it is all included in the price.

Staff

The team at the Bahia Principe Costa Adeje get very good reviews, with words like “helpful” and “attentive” used to describe them.  They clearly go out of their way to create an exceptional atmosphere and they get a kind mention in review after review.  One reviewer simply describes the service as “fantastic”.

Insider Tips

“Odd numbered rooms face out onto the pool whilst even numbered rooms face out onto the back of the hotel.”

Verdict
If you want a holiday where you can walk from the hotel to a lively strip of clubs, pubs and shops, then you need to stay at one of the other great Costa Adeje hotels featured on this web site.  But if you want to get away from it all and relax in beautiful, clean surroundings with your every need catered for by helpful staff (sounds like my kind of place!) then this could just be the hotel for you.  I give it a well-deserved nine out of ten.

This four star hotel is one of four Iberostar hotels in Costa Adeje on the south-west coast of Tenerife.  In general, Costa Adeje hotels are of a very good standard compared to other resorts on the island, as you will know if you have read other pages on this web site, and Las Dalias is no exception.  To summarise the reviews of some of its customers, on the Holidays Uncovered web site, some 75% of the 64 reviewers are happy to recommend the hotel to others.   The reviews on TravelRepublic are similarly favourable, with 35% giving this Tenerife hotel top marks, and 38% giving it four out of five.  A measly 2% gave the lowest mark.  Let’s take a look at what people think of this hotel in more detail:

Location

Costa Adeje Hotel Las Dalias

Las Dalias is centrally located in Costa Adeje, very close to a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants.  It is some 500 metres from a lovely sandy beach, which is about 15 minutes walk if you are going down to the beach, and perhaps 20 minutes if you are coming back – because the hotel is in an elevated position.  This means you get great views from many of the rooms, but it also means that if you are returning laden with shopping or you are pushing a buggy – or if you have walking difficulties for that matter – you may prefer to take a taxi, which will cost only a couple of euros because the distance is minimal.  The hotel, like any of the Costa Adeje hotels, is about 15 minutes from the airport, so again, a taxi transfer is not going to break the bank.  By the way, you can walk to the famous Siam Park in about 20 minutes from this hotel – a great day out if you can force yourself away from the pool.

Staff

Las Dalias attracts some genuinely touching comments about its staff.  From the welcome glass of Cava when you check in, to the cheery “hola” from the housekeeping team, it seems that everyone here takes a real pride in their jobs and actually enjoys their work.  Several reviewers report that they have had some problem or other and in almost every case that I can find, the reviewer is not just satisfied, but really impressed with the effective action taken by the staff to sort out whatever problem has arisen.  It seems that nothing is too much trouble for them.  A pair of honeymooners report that they were allocated twin beds – a slight faux pas that one – but in a jiffy they were moved to another room with a double bed.  A request from another couple to move floors to “be near their friends” was also granted with no problem.  Las Dalias really must be the envy of the other Costa Adeje hotels because of its all-star cast of staff.

Rooms

The 404 rooms at Las Dalias are finished to a good standard.  The hotel has nine floors, so the lifts are a necessity and there are no complaints about that.  Each room has air conditioning, satellite TV, a mini bar and a safe.  If you want to use the mini bar, like many other Costa Adeje hotels – and hotels everywhere for that matter – you will need to ask reception and they will stock it for you.  Then you can use the fridge for your own drinks too, which can be a godsend when the weather is hot.  There is an en suite bathroom in every room and they all have a shower and bath.  You will almost always get twin beds if you book a double room, so if you want a double bed be sure to ask for one and the ever-obliging staff will help.  Some customers over the years have complained of hard beds, but these comments are few, and the reviewers in question have always been satisfied with their new beds after they were allocated different rooms.  I suspect the hotel has a rolling replacement programme for the beds and that some of them are from an earlier time.

Food

You can stay on one of several board bases at Las Dalias – B&B, half-board, full-board or all-inclusive.  My personal preference is to go half-board at least, as this can cost as little as £30 per person per week extra.  As you can imagine, £30 would not go very far in the Costa Adeje restaurants.  If you do it this way, you can then go out on the town for a night or two if you fancy a change of scenery.
In the daytime, you can get food at the pool bar, and in the evening there is the usual buffet set-up in the main restaurant.  There is a dress code in the restaurant, but you can go as casual as a ¾ length trousers and a tee shirt with no problems, and that’s official!  Just leave the Speedos for the pool, OK?  I must also mention the afternoon barbecues which are a real hit with reviewers and something that you won’t find at all of the other Costa Adeje hotels.

Reviews that mention food at Las Dalias are for the most part favourable.  There are some complaints about a lack of variety – but you always get that, and there are more comments that praise the variety of food on offer than the few that complain about the lack of it.  There are several good comments about the high standards of preparation and presentation.  Overall I would conclude that the food here is far more likely to please you than not and I would say it compares very well indeed to other Costa Adeje hotels.  A word of warning – if you see any of that local sauce known as “mojo picón”, be careful – be very careful – too much, and it’ll blow your head off!

Internet

There are two PCs for public use and also a WIFI hot-spot in the reception area, but you need to pay for both.

Leisure Facilities

OK let’s start with the bars.  There are three at Las Dalias:  the Bar Venus is open day and evening, and has the sports channel on a wide-screen TV.  The Bar Diana is the evening bar, where you can enjoy a little live entertainment while sipping that holiday cocktail!  The Pool Bar is, naturally enough, by the pool.  All of these facilities are of a good standard.

On the entertainment front, the standards at Las Dalias are very high, in line with the staff in general here.  The entertainment team has a real edge on many of the other Costa Adeje hotels, and you are almost certain to find something you will like judging by the gushing comments of so many people on this subject.  It’s not restricted to the evenings either – there is live music and dance classes during the day too.  The children’s entertainment is brilliant here too.  The mini club really wows the kids who can’t seem to get enough of it – I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them never venture from the hotel at all!
If you find a sudden spurt of energy, apart from taking a swim you can also go to the hotel’s gym, which is pretty good, or to the unusual sand arena, an unusual feature of the hotel, where you can play volleyball or have a game of five-a-side football if you can prise enough of your friends off their sunbeds!  After exercising your little heart out, you can treat yourself to a massage which is yet another little service on offer here.

Outside

The gardens and palm-fringed terraces are the big attraction at Las Dalias – far superior to many of the other Costa Adeje hotels.  You can always find a little nook or cranny where you can get a little peace under a palm tree with your holiday novel.  Forget that thing about reserving sunbeds too – just turn up when you are ready and take your pick – there are loads of them here.  As for swimming pools, there are two adults’ pools and a round pool just for the kids.

To finish with I have a couple of insider tips, but keep them to yourself:

• A few people mention that one or two of the lower rooms can be a little more noisy because of the communal areas of the hotel underneath.  So, to be sure of a tranquil stay, why not request a room on an upper floor?
• Fancy a large balcony?  One reviewer claims that rooms 330 – 335 have amazingly large ones!

The Verdict

I would say, based on the hundreds of reviews out there for this hotel, that if you go to Las Dalias for your Tenerife holiday you are more likely to have a great time than not.  The staff are great, the hotel is truly good value and to a high standard – and I have to tell you that a whole load of people come back to this hotel year after year.  The fact that reviewers talk of being welcomed back like old friends speaks volumes for what Las Dalias in Costa Adeje is all about.
