It’s well-loved by most of the people who stay there, judging by the reviews.  For example, on TripAdvisor, out of 93 reviews at the time of writing, some 79% of visitors rated it above average or excellent.  A very respectable 86% would recommend the hotel to others.

Let’s take a closer look at the good and bad points:

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is it?

Now, many cheap holidays to Benidorm involve staying in a grotty hotel amongst the rowdy bars.  The Presidente, although right in the middle of buzzing Benidorm, is not in a rowdy location, and it’s certainly not grotty either.

The hotel is some 250 metres from the lovely sandy Levante beach, less than a five-minute walk away.  The Old Town is also on the doorstep, so you can shop till you drop and then pop into your room to offload all those bags before setting off again on your next mission!  Later, it’s an easy totter to and from the night-life, even in high heels (but don’t tell the

wife you borrowed them, OK?)  All in all, you will probably not find a more central hotel for all that Benidorm has to offer.

Who is this hotel for?

This is one of those rare hotels that appeals to pretty much everyone in one way or another, because there really is something for everyone right on the doorstep if not in the hotel itself.  Couples of all ages, singles, groups of friends young and old, families with kids – you see them all here.

How do the rooms compare to other hotels in Benidorm?

If I am honest (and I am, you know), I would say that some of the rooms here are due for a makeover.  Now, that’s not to say they are shabby or dirty.  Oh no.  In fact, the immaculate condition of the rooms and the communal areas of the hotel is something that is commented on by so many people who come here.  The cleaning team work so hard here, it’s amazing.  Clean towels every day; your room swept and mopped every day – they really take cleanliness seriously here.

The rooms all have free air con/heating, which is a nice touch, and all have private bathrooms with shower and hair dryer.  Soap, shower gel and shampoo is provided – very good for a three-star hotel and not something you associate

with cheap holidays to Benidorm.

The room size is reasonable, not massive but reasonable.  There is a phone, and you can pay extra for satellite TV (but with limited channels), a room safe (15 euros per week) and a fridge (30 euros per week).  OK, the fridge cost is a bit high, and personally I would do without and get yourself down to the bar!

One more thing – the balconies are big!

What’s outside?

The lovely landscaped gardens are on two levels and there are plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas on the non-slip flooring around the rectangular pool.  If you come here in the cooler months, you may be interested to know that the pool here has a cover that is closed when the weather is cooler, and when the cover is closed, the water is heated, and stays really warm!  This is not the sort of

luxury you usually get on cheap Benidorm holidays, and I should know.

The pool is a “walk-in”, shelving gently from zero to 1.5m at the deep end, where water cascades in – great for the kids to play under!  There is also a children’s pool, and yet another bonus – two jacuzzis!

Like the rest of the hotel, the pool and gardens are kept spotless at all times.  The pool is cleaned and the surrounding area hosed down every day.

What about food and drink?

Food is served buffet-style, and there is a good selection.  Breakfast has the usual choice of cereals, juices and Full English, a notable feature being the “proper butcher’s sausages”.  At lunchtimes (for full-board customers) and in the evenings, there is a good choice of hot and cold dishes, with beef; chicken; fish such as salmon and trout; seafood; paella; rice; pasta; salads; fruit – and chips, naturally.

Now, the desserts here are something of a star attraction.  “To die for”, so they say – lots of creamy, chocolatey yumminess.  There is also a gadget that you will not be able to resist – a self-service “ice-cream machine” and sprinkles – try keeping the kids away from that one!

Breakfast is served from 8am to 10am; lunch from 1pm to 3pm and the evening meal from 7pm until 9pm.

If you fancy a drink and want to stick to the “cheap holidays to Benidorm” theme – well, you are going to want to restrict yourself to the happy hour – or should I say happy EIGHT hours, because it runs from noon until 8pm!  After that the prices go up, but they’re still reasonable.

What’s the entertainment like?

Cheap holidays to Benidorm would not be complete without a little hotel entertainment, and it starts at 2pm here, with music round the poolside following by a bingo session with a cheeky rogue of a bingo caller!  At 8pm there is a live singer outside, which is very pleasant to listen to when you’re getting ready to go out, and there are acts in the evening that are OK but when you’ve seen it once, that’s probably enough.

Remember though that this is Benidorm, and if you want quality entertainment, let’s face it, you haven’t got far to go from the Presidente!  In fact, the UK Cabaret Club, owned by the hotel, is right next door and has some great acts  – don’t miss Crissy Rock and Rikki Stevens if you go there.

Are the staff friendly?

I think it is fair to say that they are a lovely bunch here.  Watch out for the bingo caller, Junio – he’s a laugh.  Waiter Fernando also deserves a mention for his excellent cheery manner.  On the housekeeping team, Anna Lopez is not happy unless her customers are happy, and Carolina is little love.

Is there Internet access?

Yes, there are two computers in the bar area where you can get online, costing a euro for 20 minutes.  There are also two games machines at the same price.

What other facilities are there?

There’s a TV lounge if you really can’t think of anything better to do in Benidorm (shame on you!), and a useful facility is the washing machine just outside the bar doors, on the way to the sun terrace – ask for tokens at reception.

Top Tips

“The acts in the UK Cabaret Club are brilliant – especially comedienne Chrissy Rock.”

“I think it’s worth a few euros more to pay for a pool view – you can change to a pool view room if one is available for about three euros a night each.”

“Go to the Green Bar across the road – Brian and Miguel give excellent service.” (!)

“The rooms have loads of electrical sockets so I recommend taking two or three plug adaptors if you have electrical goods with you.”

“If you don’t have a pool view room, ask for a room on Filipanas Street.”

Verdict

The Presidente Hotel can be booked at a great price and is an ideal place for cheap holidays to Benidorm.  For me, the best things are the the central location; the heated, covered pool off-season; and not forgetting the bloomin ice-cream machine – you’ll put on pounds!
